With a glance around, Moss borrowed a newspaper from his
neighbor’s sidewalk. A quick look
through the classifieds yielded a couple leads for a cheap second-hand
bed. Moss was about to refold and
return the paper when something else caught his eye:
WANT TO IMPROVE
YOURSELF AND YOUR COMMUNITY?
NEW OPENINGS, PAY
AFTER EACH SHIFT.
The Sunset Valley Armed Forces Division is seeking new
recruits. Interested parties
please apply in-person to the military base at 5:00 am.
Moss tossed the newspaper back to his neighbor’s mailbox,
considering his options. The
military was not his dream career, but surely he could give it a go. Pay after each shift would give him
some money for dates and savings for his future home!
A short introduction, and the two were happily discussing
the park. Victoria described the
park in such romantic terms! She
seemed to enjoy the ponds more than the plants, but Moss felt a romantic
connection. Unfortunately that
feeling ended when she added how much her and her husband, Beau, enjoy the
park. They chatted a little more
until Victoria and Beau left for home.
Third try’s the charm, hoped Moss, as he went over to greet a policewoman. Tia Rose! How could they not be meant for each other with a surname like that? He thought he’d gotten lucky as the unmarried Tia Rosa shared the local gossip with him, but it was not to be…
Tia was unimpressed when Moss explained the benefits of recycling and composting. She said she had bigger things to worry about, like teens out past curfew! Moss couldn’t be interested in somehow who was so dismissive of his eco-friendly lifestyle.
It was getting late and everyone was leaving the park, so Moss hailed a cab. He felt guilty, spending natural resources so wastefully, and hoped having his own sustainable garden would balance out his eco-unfriendly deed. Content to have started his garden, Moss bedded down under the stars.
Next time: Moss earns some military money, but can he get a date?
